The answer depends on why you are creating content for your website. The first thing to say is that it is really good that you are creating content whatever the reason. If your website is a personal site or you are writing content for a travel blog or personal interest blog then keywords may not matter to you that much.
Perhaps the readership of your site is mainly family and those within your interest circle who are already aware of your website. However, if your site is of a commercial nature and therefore a tool you intend to use to generate sales or sale leads then keywords are extremely important.
Keywords are the words that searchers use when they are searching the internet. For example, if you are looking for a web designer then you would type either ‘web design’ or ‘web designer’ into the Google search bar. If you are looking for a location related service you might type something like ‘Blackpool Plumbing’.
So Why Does It Matter?
It matters because as you create content you want to make sure your content includes the keywords associated with your business. Depending on your industry, there may be many keywords or just a few. Some keywords maybe extremely popular, in which case you will need to create lots of content with that keyword included in order for Google to return your website high up in the search rankings.
If your website provides a particular product or service you may think that words associated with that product will just naturally appear in your text anyway. So why worry? That may seem to be true but you may be surprised.
Further, you may think people would use certain search terms to find your product but once again you may be surprised. So what is the answer? Keyword research.
You need to use web based tools to find out which search terms are the most popular in your industry and then tailor your content to match those terms. There are many premium tools that you must subscribe to use, which will give you keyword data. However a great free place to start is Google trends (add link here).
