Depending on your age you will either think about a chocolate biscuit snack that goes will with a cup of tea or a complex Goole algorithm will spring to mind! As much as we love chocolatey biscuits this article is actually about the latter. Penguin is the name of one of the algorithms that Google uses to help prevent bad practice SEO. This is typically filling content with key words and phrases that aren’t natural, just to make the content appear more relevant to those subject areas than it really is.
Penguins don’t like bad links!
Another practice that Google does not approve of is the use of irrelevant links. This is where content is linked to other content which is actually of no use or relevance to the original subject matter. This technique is designed to boost links between sites which in the past Google considered to be a good thing. Of course those links need to be relevant and so Penguin is designed to identify this bad practice. Penguin recently received an update and this was announced through the usual Google webmasters blog. All of this simply emphasises how important genuine, fresh, new content is to your website. If you are not already creating new content for your site on a regular basis you need to give this a lot more thought.
