Important Web Design Tips – Part 2
Design content, not flashy multimedia gimmicks!
Gone are the 90s and with it went the internet’s desire for Flash graphics and multimedia. It may look impressive (sometimes) but consumers are more demanding now – they want a site that works! Visitors to your site want to be able to find out information quickly and easily – Flash allows for neither of these. What’s more with the growth of Apple and their devices non-allowance of Flash you are potentially alienating a large potential customer base. Avoid flashy multimedia.
Design a ‘clean’ layout.
The temptation to fill every pixel of a page can be too much for some designers but remember – white space is good! White space enhances the look of your site and focuses the attention on what actually is on the page, rather than perturbing visitors with a mess of images and ‘stuff’. Keep your site clean.
Design for all browsers AND screen resolutions.
Test, test and then test again! Check that your site is compatible with all of the main browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari). Equally as important is making sure you design stretch layouts that can fit any screen resolution – what looks good for some may look horrible for others. Make sure you keep ALL of your customers needs in mind.
