Facebook and Twitter, amongst a wealth of other social networking media, are leading a new world of marketing and business promotion that is unparalleled and unprecedented. If you don’t already have a Facebook profile, simply go to www.Facebook.com and fill in the form to register.
Using a Facebook page with friends and family first is a good start, it will give you a safe place to learn the ropes and understand the format. When you’re comfortable with Facebook as a platform, by talking with people you know in real life, it’s time to get your business set up.
Go back to the sign-up page and you’ll notice a ‘create page’ button beneath the registration box. Facebook want to keep this as easy as possible, so give you a selection of 6 options: local business, company, brand or product, celebrity or public figure, entertainment and cause.
Click on whichever applies to you – probably ‘local business’ initially – and fill in the details. Share what you feel comfortable sharing. If you run your business from home and don’t want to add your home address, don’t add it.
With your information complete, click ‘get started’, this will take you through to the bare bones of your business page, which we’ll work through in the next mini-article. Baby steps, people!
