Define your company values BEFORE designing

It’s important that your website is a reflection of your brand. Therefore the first thing that needs establishing is a clear and concise brand itself. You need to determine exactly what your brand stands to represent, where it sits within the market and what its key drivers are before you attempt to design individual facets such as your logo. If you rush into web design then you are likely to end up with a website that constantly conflicts and fails to deliver a consistent and regular message.

Ensure that you are designing a website that truly reflects your business. Your fonts, colours and images need to have reasoning behind them that reflect the approach your business uses and/or have a close emotional relationship with your brand. If you are an edgy forward thinking brand then more colourful colours and whacky fonts can help you portray this. If you represent a safe and professional IT company then this also needs to be mirrored in your website. All of this needs to link back to your company’s core principles; your ethics and the manner in which you conduct business.

Ask yourself what it is your company stands for before you attempt to design your website. Design around your ethics, not the other way around!
