You Need To Be On Every Social Media Platforms Don’t You?

05 Apr 2011

Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Quora, Gowalla, Digg.....you need to be on all of these great social media platforms don’t you?

It’s great if you can fully commit to a campaign that involves all social media outlets and you can dedicate enough time and/or budget to ensure that you are getting the best out of each one. But the likelihood of this being the case, particularly at the start of your campaign, is virtually non-existent. Indeed if you are an SMB then you are unlikely to ever have the combination of time, budget and expertise to fully embrace all the platforms available to you without outsourcing.

A common mistake people make is to get themselves on every single possible Social Media outlet as quickly as possible. Having a Facebook profile with no direction is counterproductive and having a Twitter handle without a strategy is simply whistling in the wind but doing one of these correctly can really enhance your business.

Make sure you get it right on one platform first. Carefully choose which medium you think will be best for your business and make sure you have a clear engagement strategy, preset goals and means to measure the success of your campaign on that medium. When, and only when, you are happy that you’re accomplished within that platform you can extend your social voice and have a fully integrated Social media presence.
